What Is Car ECU?

by What is car ECU The ECU is an electronic computer which used in modern vehicles to maneuver its electric components. Reading real time data from sensors and transmitting output to the different components, the car computer module manage the proper maneuvering of the vehicle.

The ECU collect information from the different modules in the automobile such as the injection system and camshaft sensors to smartly compute information as cooling system, injection system, intake and some other internal components to estimate and maneuver the running state of the engine, transmission system like the camshafts position, the fluid flow, the lighting control and others.

A simple example is the speed detector found on the wheel which detects the wheel speed and send the information to the ECU. Using this infrastructure, rather than handing out messages to multiple wires from one sensor, the messages would be transferred by the motor vehicle's computer to all the wired units that use this information like the speedometer, suspension system, ABS and others.

On-board Diagnostics Port

OBD port A vehicle that accommodate ECM will also offer On-board Diagnostics (OBD) provision to let officials or driver to plug diagnostics equipage and check the auto motive main computer condition.

ECU theft opposing control

The car immobiliser is theft opposing mechanism placed on the ECU. It prevents the car engine from running without applying a commissioned key. This mechanism uses an exclusive transponder chipped key that stores the electronic security PIN code or in other words a pass-code. The automotive computer module wouldn't power on the injector of fuel infrastructure and the ignition lock if the PIN code in the key isn't in sync with the PIN code stored in the immobiliser.

Different manufacturers of automobiles use other types of car computers including the ECM (Engine Control Module), PCM (Powertrain Control Module), GEM (General Electric Module) and others. Newer automotive may contain a number of ECUs and with this development, the programming entailed in configuring or resetting the ECU is turning more and more troublesome to control.
